This is actually shocking! Read it for urslef. I was reading New York Times and just found it there. Scientists working for National Geographic Society have recovered the text. Here are the links:

why is it shocking? Qur’anically (and Islamically), it is inconsistent.

The article claims that Isa (AS) asked Judas to liberate him from earthly flesh so that he could attain divinity… this is blasphemous. Moreoever, it seems to contradict even the Biblical sources (which isnt a big deal, I agree), as well as the nature of the people who were alive at that time.

But that doesnt mean the codex is fake, of course If the codex is 1,700 years old, that places it in the 4th century CE. It was in 324 CE, I think, where the Council of Nicea officially made Maryam (AS) as ‘the mother of God’ … so these blasphemies were already in circulation during the time period this codex is attributed to.

Additionally, the codex could represent some sort of a ‘guilt trip’ by Judas’ followers, trying to find excuses for their betrayal, by making it seem as if Judas was following orders from Isa (AS) all along.

But they did not kill Isa (AS); Allah [SWT] has only taken him up to the Heavens, to be sent back down at the appropriate time. 🙂
